Mega Millions® Jackpot Repeats Itself

The winning ticket was sold in New York, and the lucky winner matched all six numbers drawn on Tuesday night: the white balls 7, 9, 15, 19, and 25, as well as the gold Mega Ball 4, to claim the $20 million prize. This marks the second consecutive time that the jackpot has been won in New York, a historic feat for the game as it's the first time two consecutive jackpots have been won in the same state.

This year has already seen six Mega Millions jackpot wins, which is a high number for this time of the year. The last jackpot win in New York was on April 14, where a lucky winner took home $483 million. Four tickets matched the five white balls to win the game’s second-tier prize, with each ticket sold in California, Iowa, Maryland, and Ohio. In addition, 27 tickets across the country won the third-tier prize by matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball. Seven of those tickets are worth $20,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier, which was 2X on Tuesday night, while the remaining 20 tickets won the standard $10,000 prize.

The Mega Millions jackpot for the upcoming drawing on April 21 will reset to its current starting value of $20 million, with $10.5 million cash. Overall, the year has been very unusual for Mega Millions, with many jackpot wins in such a short time. The complete Mega Millions jackpot history shows that New York also had a $20 million prize winner in January, which followed the $1.348 billion win in Maine on January 13.
