Lotteries Across US Move to Digital Draw System for Lotto America
The change was announced by the 13 US lotteries that sell the Lotto America game.
The new system will offer the same entertainment experience to the players, with the same draw nights, prize structure, and ticket price. The winning numbers will also be drawn earlier in the night, at around 9:15 p.m. CT. This will help the players to get the results up to 45 minutes sooner on draw nights.
The Origin Digital Draw System, purchased from Smartplay International, Inc, will be used for conducting the Lotto America drawings. The manufacturer provides similar draw systems to lottery and gaming organizations around the world. The stand-alone machine cannot be accessed remotely as it is not connected to any system or network.
To ensure the game's integrity, the DDS will be physically secured, and only authorized personnel will be allowed to access them. The drawings will take place in a dedicated draw room in Johnston, Iowa, under constant audio and video surveillance. An auditor from an independent firm will oversee every aspect of the drawing and verify the results.
The Origin DDS has been tested and certified by an independent gaming testing laboratory, ensuring its randomness and security. Two DDS will be available for use in every Lotto America drawing, and the machine will be randomly selected by a coin flip prior to each drawing.
The certification process includes running security checks on the code, testing the software's randomness, and ensuring that the machine cannot be accessed remotely. The machines will also be subject to ongoing security assessments, at least once a year, to certify their randomness.
The lotteries aim to modernize their operations while maintaining the game's credibility and offering the same entertainment experience to the players. The Lotto America game is a $1 draw game that is available for purchase in 13 US lottery jurisdictions. The jackpot grows until it is won, with odds of winning the jackpot at 1 in 25.9 million and the overall odds of winning a prize at 1 in 9.63.
